Contributing to Machine Learning in the Geosciences

Class Curriculum

Small, curated benchmark datasets suitable for training

Do you have a small (<10 GB) or a medium size (<100GB) curated training dataset that you can share and is suitable for an ML problem? We are looking at demonstrating a variety of types of datasets and ML examples to showcase in our class curriculum using small, manageable datasets. The datasets will be used in educational materials and class or group projects.

Classroom suitable notebooks illustrating machine learning use in geoscience

Are you interested in contributing to the classroom curriculum and/or are developing your own classroom content and would like to share? We are aiming to diversify the ML-based curriculum to include a wide range of geoscience subdomains and ML techniques.

Instructions for how to contribute

If interested in sharing classroom materials, please use the form below, or contact Marine Denolle at mdenolle@uw.edu to discuss your contribution.

Use Cases

Relevant and documented machine learning workflows

Have you recently published a manuscript or paper using a ML technique? End-to-end use cases are a critical part of the GeoSMART educational framework.

Instructions for how to contribute

Submit a summary of your use case with links to data and a Github repository. Either fill out the form below, or email Nicoleta Cristea at cristn@uw.edu to discuss your contribution. A use case book template can be found on the curriculum page, under "Jupyter Books".

Hackweeks

Participate in hackweek events

Join GeoSMART hackweek events as a participant or part of the organization team. To get informed about potential roles including tutorial lead, project lead, data science lead, or helper, click here.

Instructions for how to contribute

Submit a request to lead a hackweek activity to Anthony Arendt at arendta@uw.edu, or use the form below.

Tools

Take advantage of Geoweaver and drive adoption

Learn and use Geoweaver for workflow management and project history preservation. To ask questions about the tool, please either contact Ziheng Sun at zsun@gmu.edu, or fill out the contact form.
